Compromised of SF Bay Area music vets Ryan Lukas (The Flux, Guns for San Sebastian, Persephone’s Bees), Jacob Groopman (ALBINO!, Donner Mtn, Jug Free America) and Matthew "Smitty" Smith (The Flux, ALBINO!), The Big Nasty is a new kind of power trio.
The band utilizes a unique combination of instruments that allow for a fresh take on rock and roll and country - Upright Bass, the Cajon box drum and Electric guitar. This original instrumentation has allowed the band to develop a truly original sound that will rock your socks right off.
Within months of its inception, The Big Nasty developed a repertoire of over 30 original songs written by bassist and songwriter Ryan Lukas and was approached by Producer/CEO of Berkeley's Opus Music, Wayne Skeen to record a pair o EP's indicative of the two sides of The Big Nasty; Country and Rock.
Looking to capture the live nature of the band and their raw sound, Skeen decided to record the band live in the same room. The result was the undeniably explosive "Paper City", a double EP set of original music consisting of one disc of rock songs called "Downtown" and one disc of country songs called "The Sticks".
"Paper City" is a solid representation of what the band has to offer. It is a raw in your face ensemble that can flow seamlessly from country to hard rock with an unpretentious force that leaves audiences reeling. The Big Nasty is out there and coming to your town.
